// Mechanical Engineering — Manufacturing & Design — Computer Science

I'm a senior mechanical engineering student at UT Austin in the integrated BSME/MSE program, concentrating my master's in Manufacturing and Design.

I'm excited to keep exploring internship and co-op opportunities where I can put these skills to the test. I'm always looking for the next challenge to learn from — if you have one, I would love to hear about it!

About Me

Sahir Lakhani
SAHIR LAKHANI

I'm Sahir, a mechanical engineering student who enjoys figuring out how ideas become real, functional products. Whether I'm designing the aeroshell of a solar vehicle or working on root-cause analysis reports, I love when I can take something from being an idea to becoming a finished build.

Outside of engineering, I enjoy playing basketball with friends, trying new restaurants, and exploring new places. I love traveling everywhere, from rural Terlingua, Texas, to bustling Seoul, South Korea, because each destination offers a different perspective, culture, and experience. One of my favorite parts of traveling is collecting playing cards from the places I visit, giving me a small keepsake and a story to remember from each trip.

Longhorn Racing Solar: Bottom-Shell-to-Frame Mechanism

Objective
Design a bottom-shell-to-frame mounting mechanism with custom contoured platforms that match the solar vehicle shell's curvature and distribute loads into the chassis.
Outcome
Validated the load path from shell to chassis in SolidWorks simulation and delivered contoured platforms that drop into the frame without shimming, keeping the underside serviceable.

Longhorn Racing Solar: Top-Shell-to-Frame Mechanism

Objective
Develop a top-shell-to-frame mechanism that constrains shell motion in every critical degree of freedom while preserving quick access to internal components.
Outcome
Built a quick-release interface that locks the top shell in all six degrees of freedom yet lifts clear in seconds for battery swaps and driver access during races.

Windmill Generator

Objective
Build a wind turbine generator and an analog circuit that reads it, rectifying the generator's AC output into usable DC and driving an indicator system that flags when the windmill is spinning too slowly, sits in an acceptable range, or spins too quickly, with a fourth LED whose brightness scales continuously with speed. The circuit had to run purely on analog hardware — a four-diode bridge rectifier, an RC filter, an LM339N comparator, and a PN2222A transistor — with potentiometer-set reference voltages instead of a microcontroller.
Outcome
The all-analog system converted the generator's AC into a smooth, stable DC signal that cleanly drove the indicator LEDs: three discrete thresholds flagged when the windmill was spinning too slowly, in range, or too quickly, while a fourth LED scaled in brightness with speed for continuous feedback — all from a rectifier, filter, comparator, and transistor, with no microcontroller in the loop.

Reverse-Engineered RC Car

Objective
Reverse-engineer a stock RC car down to its individual components — measuring mass properties and center of gravity, characterizing the steering geometry and suspension, and mapping the two-stage gear train — then use that analysis to redesign the car for Baja and circuit racing. Working in a small team, I designed the replacement push rods in SolidWorks, keeping the geometry true to the stock part while stripping out unnecessary features for a clean 3D-printed link.
Outcome
The redesign cut roughly 9% of the vehicle's mass through lighter push rods, a 3D-printed heat sink, and a drag-reducing front aero cone validated with SolidWorks FEA, while stiffer Baja-tuned springs kept the suspension from bottoming out on rough terrain. The PLA push rods printed at Texas Inventionworks dropped straight onto the stock suspension points and held up through on-track performance testing, and the modifications helped the car place first in the Baja competition.

3D Gravitational Physics Game

Objective
Build a 3D MonoGame application in C# where the player steers a growing black hole through a city environment, with an adapted gravitational force model pulling nearby objects into orbit before they are consumed. Working in a small team, I owned the core architecture — the content pipeline, main update and draw loop, scene and object spawning, collision detection, and the state machine tying the menu, gameplay, pause, and end screens together.
Outcome
Delivered a complete game loop with a live HUD, mass-gated growth tiers, a round timer, togglable audio, and high scores written to disk so they persist between sessions. Tuning the radial and tangential force components so objects orbited convincingly instead of flinging upward was the hardest part, and hardening the file IO kept a missing save from ever crashing a first launch.

Eagle Scout Project: Mosque Beautification

Objective
Restore the deteriorating landscaping outside my mosque after COVID left the grounds without regular care, while leading scouts and the landscaping team in clearing the soil and placing new grass.
Outcome
Planned and led the Eagle Scout service project, coordinating about 10 volunteers, materials, transportation, and a phased installation that brought healthy greenery back to an important community gathering place.
